Three Strategies to a Younger Looking Skin

Your skin speaks volumes about you and the way you care for it speaks even more. A beautiful skin is your crowning glory and can be considered a testament to how you value your health and well-being. Caring for your skin is definitely a good thing and a habit that should be adopted by everyone, males and females alike.

Age is one of the skin’s Waterloo. It manifests on the skin and is something that most of us consider to be something we would rather not have. Skin aging, basically, is characterized by wrinkles, skin spots or uneven skin tone. Wrinkles happen due to the thinning of the skin because of the gradual break down of the skin’s underlying structure as time goes by. It loses its natural elasticity which it used to have in its youth.

The good news is that there are three simple things that you can do to help prolong that young-looking, healthy and glowing skin. Below I enumerate those three and explain on why they are good strategies to help keep your skin youthful for as long as you possibly can.

Prevention

Skin aging, particularly the premature kind, can be prevented and one of the most important things to remember in this regard is to minimize exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, the UV-A and UV-B rays, because they are the skin’s worst enemy. It does not mean you should deprive yourself of going to the beach for some good old sun-bathing. You just need to remember to apply a little sun screen protection to block of the aforementioned harmful rays. Avoid getting exposed to the sun for prolonged periods and not during noon time when the sun is at its peak.

Getting enough rest and sleep is also a good way to strengthen your skin against the effects of premature aging. Sleep after all is our body’s quality time as far as self-repair is concerned.

Proper Nutrition

Getting enough water and nutrients that help maintain the body’s optimum condition will also help a great deal. Fruits and vegetables are the best in supplying the needed vitamins and antioxidants that help get rid of free radicals that can wreak havoc to your body at a cellular level. Vitamins A, C, E are the best and are commonly found in bright-colored fruits and vegetables. Other important nutrients include the Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids, folic acid and zinc.

Intervention

While prevention is still way better, not all of us have the foresight or the determination to prevent the effects of aging. Science has discovered and developed methods that can be used to reverse or slow down the hands of time on our skin. Some of those methods include surgical and non-surgical methods. Surgical methods include laser treatment and face lifting techniques while non-surgical methods involve creams that contain tretinoin, which is a prescription drug, or its weaker, off-the-shelf counterpart, retinol. Creams with vitamin C are also showing a lot of promise along with other brand formulation that are coming out in the market. As always, before using any of the above these methods, it is better to consult a doctor first.
