Popular Surgeries for the Fashion Conscious
Nobody wants to get old, but fortunately, we live in a time when the onset of old age can be reduced. Whether this reduction is in a slowing down of the aging process, for example, there is a tablet, which has been tested on mice, that not only slows down the aging process, but reverses it too – however, it is a long way from being widely available for humans. Then, there is a more physical approach, where the signs of the aging process can be minimised, but not inherently changed – this is done via cosmetic surgery.
There are many different procedures within cosmetic surgery, some are surgical, others non-surgical. The important thing, however, is that people understand the various procedures available to them. Here, we take a closer look at some of the more popular treatments available.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation involves placing implants behind the natural breasts to make them larger than they already are. This is fairly popular, and made increasingly so by programmes such as Made in Chelsea and TOWIE. This is a surgical procedure and does carry some risks. When choosing this option it is important to discuss the procedure thoroughly with your surgeon.
Breast Lift
Breast lifts are for people who already like the size and shape of their breasts, but who, usually because of pregnancy or age, now have sagging breasts. A breast lift will ‘lift’ the breasts to a higher position, thus making them appear more pert, and consequently, more youthful looking. Again, this is a surgical procedure and therefore requires a lot of thought.
Eyelid Surgery
Some people, the author included, have heavy eyelids. These cause problems because they make the eyes appear smaller than they are. In society, we tend to prefer large, open, eyes, and so this procedure is very popular. During eyelid surgery, fat, muscle and skin is removed from the eyelid, creating a more open-eyed appearance. Again, a surgical procedure, so needs in-depth discussion with a surgeon.
Face and Lift
When we age we lose fat and collagen from our skin, this creates loose and sagging skin, and the process is particularly concentrated on the face and neck. A face or neck lift is simply the removal of excess skin in order to create a tighter appearance, which in turn gives the illusion of youth. Face lifts vary, for example, some people may opt for a forehead lift, while others may choose for an overall lift. This is a surgical procedure.
Lip Augmentation and Fillers
Lips are full of fat and collagen, but as we age, this disappears. In order to create youthful looking lips, surgeons will either inject new collagen or fit implants. This will reduce wrinkling around the mouth, but also, will create a fuller pout. Implant fitting is a surgical procedure, whereas the fillers are non-surgical. Depending on your feelings towards surgery, one or other will be more suitable.
